God’s Will

Many people have said in response to a child born with a disability that it must have been God’s will.  I have a different perspective than that.  I don’t believe in most cases that God “wills” anyone to have a disability.  Can God “will” a disability onto someone? Sure, He is God, and He can do anything He wants. However, I feel that any kind of problem that we are born with is not “due” to God, it is due to the fall of man.  I don’t necessarily feel that God says “I’m going to give this person THIS disability,” I believe it just happens, because of our ever increasing distance from the creation of the perfect man and woman, because of sin and its effects on humankind.  And, the attitude I have is, as a conversation with some “old friends” goes, this sucks.  But now what are we going to let God do with it.  So, the fact that Renny has spina bifida sucks.  Plain and simple.  It is, essentially, unfair.  BUT….we know that even though this sucks, we also know that God is amazing, and He will help us, help her, find a way to make this good.  How God will use her, if she lets Him, and how she uses it for Him, is going to be the bigger story.  She is already amazing, and I can’t wait to see what He has in store for her.
